In 2020, Battleground proudly announced the addition of former MLB starting pitcher Matt Clement to our staff.
Matt Clement enjoyed a notable MLB career, playing for the San Diego Padres (1998–2000), Florida Marlins (2001), Chicago Cubs (2002–2004), and Boston Red Sox (2005–2006). As a member of the Red Sox in the 2005 season, Clement was named an All-Star for the first time in his big league career. He retired in 2009 with 87 career wins, a 4.47 ERA, and 1,217 strikeouts. Currently, Matt serves as the Butler Boys’ Basketball Head Coach and brings a wealth of MLB experience to the Spikes staff.
Coach Clement will serve as Director of College Placement, working closely with Chase, Sean and Josh on extending as many amateur careers as we can. His extensive connections at all levels of baseball will be an invaluable asset to college coaches nationwide, aiding in the recruiting process.
